Boinc github9/5/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() While BOINC already has code to detect arm64 CPU features for Linux and Android computers, the corresponding code needed for Macs will be completely different from those operating systems. ![]() However, BOINC's code does need to be updated to detect which arm64 features (such as NEON) are available on Apple Silicon processors. Since arm64 processors do not support SSE, BOINC's feature detection is correct when it does not detect SSE. NEON is an improvement over the x86 APIs in a lot of ways, and a regression in others, but it is undeniably different and you can’t just recompile your application on Arm and expect it to work. This web page says:Īrm CPUs do have support for SIMD, but instead of Intel technologies like SSE and AVX, Arm has NEON. Would 91.66% mean I use 11/12 cores or will my CPU usage never go over 91.As far as I know, SSE is available only on Intel Chips. I just saw the explanation of "Use at most % of the CPUs" this phrase is so misleading, do i set the amount of active cores/threads or do I set the max utilization of a single core? Or is it the max utilization of the whole CPU? I will try 90% maybe this will solve my issue of randomly lagging when browsing the internet etc. I don't really mind it run all the time, my issue is that it should just STOP doing tasks when I'm play games more logical solution would be to suspend when anything is in "full screen" and I could then make a exception of that so for lets say, Browser Videos, Netflix app and VLC player. and I have enabled Suspend when non bionic CPU usage is above 20% so when I even use something else it's still OK. But because BOINC is SOO GREEDY it just takes as much as it can, without leaving any gaps etc. so obviously I want to make a use of the CPU and allow BOINC to run tasks. I use my PC 12h while programming, that means the CPU runs at max 2%. You don't want to run any simulations while you use your PC. If you still have some questions or issues - you could find an answer here: īy the way, your last message doesn't contain any information about actual crashes of BOINC. If you do all this, you should have no issues like you described above. Please pay attention that the top most list is the list that will 'stop' CPU and GPU applications and the list on the bottom will 'stop' only GPU applications.Īfter that, please be sure to check in BOINC Activity and set Run based on preferences and Use GPU based on preferences. any video game), please in BOINC open Options -> Exclusive applications and set there all applications that should 'pause' BOINC computations. Looks like you do not use BOINC in a right way.įirst, be sure to open in BOINC Options -> Computing preferences and on the Computing tab set preferred settings.Īlso, if you want BOINC to run always even when not idling but stop computations when certain process is running (e.g. I don't have the logs, but I remember it happening when my monitor was in standby and when I woke it up the BOINC wasn't running anymore. I wouldn't have any issue convincing anyone in my family to run BOINC on their phones, tablets etc. So when I start lets say Cyberpunk 2077 BOINC sees the process and stops itself or at least uses just the CCD1 chiplet and leaves the first one alone. The best way would be to do some sort of event handler where I can listen for processes. and the annoying part is that I always need to suspend all project manually. I do want to donate because that CPU runs almost only at idle. But it seems like the BOINC client puts itself above my needs so me instead "donating" the computation power, I basically dedicate the PC to do simulations. My idea of BOINC and is to use unused performance while idling. So it's constantly doing simulations on my CPU at 95% usage because at 95%+ the system is unresponsive. Because my CPU is so powerful 7900X the utilization doesn't go as high as on lower end CPUs. for example on when I start a game because I want to play. ![]() There are so many issues with this client. ![]()
